Toss to Launch Finance Superapp in Australia with Stablecoin Ambitions

South Korean fintech unicorn Toss is set to debut its financial superapp in Australia by end-2025, marking its first international expansion. The Viva Republica-owned platform, which serves 30 million users in Korea, will offer account aggregation services under Australia's open banking framework.

CEO Lee Seung-gun confirmed plans to issue a Korean won-pegged stablecoin pending regulatory approval. "We've demonstrated that startups can challenge incumbents," Lee told Reuters, referencing Toss's domestic success against traditional banks.

The Australian rollout begins with P2P payment services this year, targeting a market where consumers average 2.4 bank accounts per person. The MOVE coincides with growing government support for stablecoins in South Korea's digital asset ecosystem.
